Hammond of Top Gear races the new MX-5 Miata and Greyhound Dog on the Dog's track.

Can a Greyhound beat a car? The car in this instance being the new Mazda MX5 and the greyhound being a £25,000 animal called 'Mamma Tina'. The dog has a top speed of some 45 miles an hour and can get there in just six strides, which is simply remarkable. The MX5, is also remarkable, offering great value for money, fantastic handling and brilliant fun.

No matter how good the MX5 is though, it couldn't beat the dog which had fire in its belly and far better grip on the corners. That's not to say the MX5 isn't superb though. Because it is. And let's face it, you can't ride a greyhound to work in the mornings.

In 1984 an Ohio man put together an astounding run on the television game show program Press Your Luck. He did so by memorizing the sequences by which the various prize squares lit up on the game board, allowing him to time his button presses to coincide with the lights' stopping on the most advantageous squares. By hitting 35 such squares in a row, he was able to accumulate the largest win in the history of that show, and he did it all in under an hour. When the effort became too fatiguing, he passed his remaining spins to another contestant rather than risk losing his accumulated winnings to a mistimed press of the plunger.

Robotic 'Pack Mule' with Impressive Reflexes

I read about this machine over the weekend and just ran across these videos today. Quite impressive work they've done.

A nimble, four-legged robot is so surefooted it can recover its balance even after being given a hefty kick. The machine, which moves like a cross between a goat and a pantomime horse, is being developed as a robotic pack mule for the US military.

BigDog is described by its developers Boston Dynamics as “the most advanced quadruped robot on Earth”. The company have released a new video of the robot negotiating steep slopes, crossing rocky ground and dealing with the sharp kick.

Eddie Guerrero Tribute by WWE

It has been years since I've watched wrestling but I still remember Eddie Guerrero from WCW and up to his move to the WWF (the WWE now I guess). He died back in November of a heart attack and was clean of drugs that he once abused. Here is a tribute video of him created by the WWE. Makers of the hit cartoon The Simpsons have a filmed the show's opening titles using real actors.

In the hit viral going around the world we get to see what Bart, Homer, Marg, Lisa and Maggie would look like if they were humans.

The clip re-enacts the title sequence to a tee beginning with the camera zooming into a schoolroom to see a blonde Bart scribbling lines on the blackboard.

Simpson’s maker Matt Groening has approved the human version of the show’s opening credits to promote the brand new series.

Eric Prydz - Call On Me (Late Night Version)

Eric Prydz is a Swedish DJ and producer. Eric Prydz also releases music under the aliases of Cirez D and Pryda. The music he produces falls under the genre of Tech House which is a subgenre of Electronica. The song is a dance track based on a rerecorded sample of Steve Winwood's song Valerie, originally released in the UK in 1982 to little success, and re-released in 1987, gaining more success by peaking at #19 that time around. Winwood collaborated with Prydz on the song by rerecording his vocals.

The music video for this song directed by Huse Monfaradi features an aerobics class of women performing sexually suggestive gym routines led by Australian dancer and choreographer Deanne Berry, much to the enjoyment of the sole man in the group, played by Juan Pablo Di Pace.

Some people considered this video to be as close as it gets to soft pornography. Many politicians and family groups have pushed for the video to be banned, but there are two videos--a censored one shown in daylight hours and a late night version which is uncut and features the dancers rubbing their breasts and one dancer slapping her own buttocks.

Spore Gameplay Video (Will Wright)

William R. Wright (born January 20, 1960) is an American computer game designer and co-founder of the video game developer, Maxis. He is best known as the original designer of the two groundbreaking computer games SimCity and The Sims.

Will Wright talking at the Game Developer's Conference about 'Spore', which looks like it could possibly be the best video game ever.

Spore will be a simulation that "ranges from the cellular level to the galactic level". It features several stages that are reminiscent of some of Wright's favorite games:

Tidepool stage, similar to Pac-Man
Evolution stage, Diablo
Tribal stage, Populous and Populous: The Beginning
City stage, SimCity
Civilization stage, Risk and Civilization
Space Exploration stage, (a.k.a. UFO stage or Invasion), similar to 4X and space colonization games like Noctis

The last stage of the game, in which the player is in control of a space ship (the UFO) with an interstellar drive, appears to be a giant sandbox mode. The player will be presented with the option to 'metagame', in that while there will be no true goals set by the game, the player can make up their own games and goals to play out, such as terraforming other planets, or being 'Big Brother' to another alien race by watching over them and helping them along in secret. This appears to reverse the gaming convention of freeform tutorial modes followed by goal-oriented endgames. Spore is much more goal-oriented (survive, eat, reproduce, etc.) in its early stages and gets more open-ended and free-form as the game unfolds. At the UFO stage the player will have access to tools, such as the creature editor, from previous stages.

Wright calls the game a "massively single player online game". Simultaneous multiplayer gaming is not a feature of Spore. The creatures, vehicles, and buildings the player can create will be uploaded automatically to a central database (or a peer-to-peer system), catalogued and rated for quality (based on how many users have downloaded the object or creature in question), and then re-distributed to populate other player's games. The data transmitted will be extremely small, only 1 kilobyte according to Wright. (Think of it as sharing the DNA template of a creature while the game builds the animal itself, which represents a few megabytes of texturing, animation, etc..)

Jason McElwain, the autistic basketball star.

Alone in the gym after practice, Jason McElwain went through his elaborate pregame ritual.

The 17-year-old senior, manager of the Greece Athena High School basketball team, drained a 3-pointer, a double-pump layup and a free throw, kissed the back of his ring finger at center court and sped off to the dressing room to exhort and amuse his teammates.

"You've gotta give it everything you got!" McElwain sang in rap verse. "The winner goes home all happy/The loser goes home and says/'Mommy we lost the game, wah wah wah!"'

McElwain, who is autistic, was back in his role as an all-around motivator on the eve of a sectional semifinal game Tuesday night -- handing out water bottles, dispensing tips, helping run drills. Two weeks earlier, he suited up for a game and delivered a jaw-dropping performance.

His play drew national attention, and a flood of calls from Hollywood. His parents have received inquiries from about 25 production companies ranging from The Walt Disney Co., parent of ESPN, and Warner Bros. to independent documentary filmmakers.

"I don't know what I'm walking into," McElwain said.

In his team's final home game of the season, McElwain entered with four minutes to go. It was his first and only appearance for the Athena varsity team in this Rochester suburb. The 5-foot-6 manager hit six 3-point shots and a 2-pointer and was carried off the court on his teammates' shoulders.

When the autistic team manager of a high school basketball team got his chance in the spotlight, he shattered everyone's expectations by scoring 20 points in four minutes. Very exciting watching videos of those finally given their chance to shine.
